The following is a list of available scholarships and due dates:
December 1, 2021-The Hagan Scholarship-Students must be a student in the 2022 high school graduating class. Must have a 3.75 GPA or higher. Must enroll in college the first semester after high school. Must work 240 hours prior to the start of each academic year of college. Must complete the FAFSA in 2021 and be Pell Grant eligible. Must apply for federal and state grants. Must not have been convicted of a felony.
January 7, 2022-NSDAR Scholarship Awards and ISDAR Scholarship Award-Students who plan on attending an Iowa Technical school, college, or university, have a minimum grade point of 3.0, show merit and financial need, be recommended by the chapter regent.
January 15, 2022-Claim Aid Scholarship-Students must graduate in 2021 and continue his/her education at a college or university. Attend a school within a school district that participates in the IASB/ClaimAid Medicaid Reimbusement Program. (Alta Community School District does) There are two separate scholarships-The Star Student Scholarship of Iowa-Special Education graduating senior student who will continue his/her education at a college or university. The Special Education Teacher Scholarship of Iowa-graduating senior student who will continue his/her education at a college or university and is planning to study Education, specifically Special Edcuation
January 31, 2022-Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship-Students who are member-owner dependents of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative are eligible to apply for a $1000 scholarship.

February 1, 2022-Grand Lodge of Iowa Masonic Scholarships-Students must be graduating seniors pursuing a post-secondary education in any state at an accredited institution which provides a two or four year college program.
February 1, 2022-GFWC/IOWA Scholarship Program-Scholarships are based on achievement, financial need, and volunteerism. Unless specified, both male and femal students are eligible. Please see Mrs. Shea for a list of GFWC/Iowa Aurelia members.
February 10, 2022-Nelda Nelson Scholarship-Applicants do not need to beFarm Bureau members to apply for this scholarship.
February 10, 2022-Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship Application and Buena Vista County Farm Bureau Scholarship-To make it easier for the students, the county Farm Bureau will be utilizing the same scholarship application format used by the Iowa Farm Bureau so the students only need to fill out one form. An applicant for the scholarship must be a resident of Buena Vista county and a member of a Buena Vista County Farm Bureau Family. The completed typed form needs to be returned to the Buena Vista County Farm Bureau, Box 488, Storm Lake, Iowa, 50588. Students can go on-line at www.iowafarmbureau.com, Member, Member Benefits, Scholarships to access the application and complete the application and then print the completed form.
February 10, 2022-Iowa Farm Bureau and Cherokee County Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship Application-Sons and daughters of Farm Bureau members are eligible. Applicants must apply in the county where their Farm Bureau membership is held. Must be accepted by or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college. Must have an expected graduation date of spring 2022. Applicants must be working toward a degree in one of the following occupational areas of agriculture and/or agribusiness: Ag Production, Ag Products and Processing, Ag Business, Agricultural Research, Conservation and Natural Resources, Economics, Education, Environmental Systems, Forestry, Horticulture, Mechanization, or Nursing.
February 15, 2022-WIMECA Scholarship-Applicant must be a graduating senior from Aurelia and have a parent who is a current electric customer of Aurelia Municipal Electric.
February 11, 2022-Iowa Newspaper Foundation Scholarship-College scholarships available for students preparing for a newspaper career.
February 15, 2022-Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities Scholarship-Applicants must live in a residence that is a verified customer of an IAMU member or attend a high school that is a verified customer of an IAMU member (Alta-Aurelia High School is a customer), be a 2022 graduating high school senior or have previously graduated from high school, and be attending a post high school education program located in Iowa in the fall of 2022. Preference will be given to applicants entering a utility-related career with a special preference to applicants entering utility-related trades programs leading to careers in difficult to fill utility careers.
February 18, 2022-Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarship-Iowa high school class of 2021 students pursuing programs of study in any field of conservation or agriculture qualifies for the Conservation Scholarship.
February 18, 2022-Buena Vista County Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarship-Dr. T.E. Shea Conservation Memorial Scholarship Buena Vista County high school class of 2020 students pursuing programs of study in any field of conservation or agriculture qualifies for the Conservation Scholarship
February 28, 2022-Masonry Institute of Iowa's Charles Nicolay Educational Foundation Scholarship-To support students continuing their education in the Construction/Architecture/Engineering Field. Students must be from Iowa, must attend an Iowa institution, must attend a program related to construction/architecture/engineering/masonry field.
February 28, 2022-Roger Jones Memorial Scholars -Student must be a Senior with a 3.0 GPA. Student must have been on a Varsity team for at least one year. Student must be apart of at least one high school club and/or organization for two or more years. Student must have completed 50 or more community service hours during high school. Student must have been enrolled in an Osceola County High School for 4 years OR Attended Aurelia High School for 4 years.
March 1, 2022-Harold King Memorial Tractor Ride Agricultural Scholarship-Applicant must be a graduating student pursuing a degree in agriculture or an agricultural related field. Students must have a record of volunteerism in the community. Applicant must plan to attend a 2 year or 4 year college/university. Applicant must be an active participant in their church.
March 1, 2022-Grand Lodge of Iowa MCEC Technical Scholarships-Scholarships will be awarded to a number of graduating Iowa high school seniors who plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College.
March 1, 2022-Iowa State Rifle and Pistol Association-Applicants must be US citizens, participate in a shooting team or club during high school, and a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
March 1, 2022-Iowa Automobile Dealers Association-Applicant must be committed to the pursuit of automotive-related studies.
March 10, 2022-Harold Salton Trust Scholarship-The Harold Salton Trust Scholarship will be awarding two $500.00 Scholarships. Two students from the area schools will be selected. Student must have a Masonic Connection by lineage.
March 10, 2022-Pomegranate Lodge No. 408 A.F. & A.M.-The Pomegranate Lodge Scholarship for $250.00, one each to Alta-Aurelia, Newell-Fonda, Storm Lake Public or a St. Mary's Student.
March 11, 2022- Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship-Iowa Student Loan will award 25 Iowa high school seniors each $2000 to use for their fall 2022 college expenses. Interested seniors should go to www.IowaStudentLoan.org/SeniorScholarship to register and read the complete scholarship rules. No purchase is necessary to enter the scholarship.
March 14, 2022-Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative Scholarship-Applicants must be a US citizen, must be a current member of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, must be a senior in high school for the 2021-2022 school year and planning to enroll in a fulltime undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited two year or four year college, university, or vocational/technical school.
March 15, 2022-Farmers Mutual Scholarship-Applicant's parent must be insured by Farmers Mutual Insurance of Hull. The students need to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The student plans to attend a post high school educational institution in the fall of 2022.
March 15, 2022-Grinnell Mutual Road to Success Scholarship-Eligible seniors are insured through a personal auto policy with Grinnell Mutual or Grinnell Select, or is a dependent named on a Grinnell Mutual or Grinnell Select Insurance Policy. Maintains a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Has a clean driving record and plan to attend an accredited post secondary educational institution in the fall of 2022 as a full time student. The student is not a dependent of any Grinnell Mutual employee or affiliated agent.
March 15, 2022-First Friday Breakfast Club-Applicant must be a high school senior who has demonstrated leadership in efforts to increase education and understanding of LGBT issues and reduce homophobia in their schools and/or communities.
March 16, 2022-Ivan and Deloris Hunter Scholarship-Students centering their education on agriculture, soil conservation, and/or environmental studies may apply for one of three $500 scholarships.
March 18, 2022- AgState Scholarship-To be eligible for this scholarship students must be pursuing a degree in Agriculture an an accredited university, community college, or technical school. Preference will be given to students of AgState Class A Members. Factors considered will include academic achievement, school service and involvement, and other community and school related activities. Application must be filled out completely, typed, and signed.
March 26, 2021-Ag Partners and Alceco Scholarship-Applicants must be a high school senior and an active member of their school's FFA chapter. Applicants must plan to enroll in an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the fall of the next academic year. March 25, 2022-Siouxland Officials Association Siouxland Sportsmanship Scholarship-Applicant must be a senior at a school district within 75 miles of Sioux City. Must participate in at least one sport for at least three years of their high school career, including their senior year. Must have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA at the time of application. Participant shall exhibit outstanding character, be a total team player, demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship during their career and serve as a role model for all students at their high school. Must have applied at a qualified post secondary educational institution.
March 30, 2019-IHERF Healthcare Career Scholarship-Applicants must be interested in a healthcare career.
March 31, 2022-Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship-Student must be a high school senior and live within a 40 mile radius of Buena Vista Regional Medical Center. Applicant must pursue a health related field of educational study.
March 31, 2021-Citizens Community Credit Union Scholarship- Applicants must be high school seniors who are members of Citizens Community Credit Union. Entrants must submit an activity form that includes high school involvement, community service and work experience.
March 31, 2022-North Star Community Credit Union Scholarship-This scholarship is open to any high school student who lives or works in Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Crawford, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, Monona, O'Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, Sac, Sioux, or Woodbury county, classified as a senior with a projected graduation date of 2022. Applicants must have an account established in their name and be a "member in good standing" at North Star Community Credit Union.
March 31, 2022-Jim Hallihan Character Legacy Scholarship-The Jim Hallihan Character Legacy Scholarship was created by his family in memory of a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, coach, and friend. Jim believed that good character was even more important than grades, success in sports, or excelling other talents. He believed in mentoring young people and often talked about the biblical principles of how challenges in life create perseverance which builds character and leads to hope. The scholarship will provide the applicants the opportunity to share some of those challenges and experiences where their character was tested, and they prevailed with good decisions and caring actions. We hope to provide opportunities for first generation college students and/or underrepresented populations on a college campus.
March 31, 2022-SFM Foundation Scholarship-Scholarships for students whose parents were killed or seriously injured in workplace accidents while working for Minnesota or Iowa Employers.
April 1, 2022-Little Sioux Corn Processors Scholarship-Applicant must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college. Must be a high school graduate, or if still in high school must have an expected graduation date in the current school year. All areas of study will be accepted. Students must maintain a cumulative minimum 2.5 grade point average throughout their college career. Scholarship will be applied toward tuition fees, housing and meal costs, book costs, or other similar costs and fees normally associated with attending a college, universtiy, or community college. Please return this scholarship to the guidance office when completed.
April 1, 2022-Friends of Aurelia Scholarship-Applicant must be a graduating senior who displays the characteristics of being kind, hard working, and has shown service to his or her community.
April 1, 2022-Iowa Scholarship for the Arts-The applicant must be an Iowa resident who will graduate from an Iowa high school during the 2021-2022 school year and be accepted as a full-time undergraduate student at a fully accredited Iowa college or university with a major in at least one of the following art areas: animation, architecture, creative writing, dance, English, fashion, fine arts education, folk and traditional arts, graphic design, literature, media arts, music, theatre or visual arts. Immediate family members or dependent children of Iowa Arts Council board and staff are not eligible.
April 1, 2020-Cherokee Policeman's Association Scholarship-Student must reside within Cherokee County Iowa or attend a school district that is at least partially in Cherokee County Iowa. Applicant is required to have logged minimum of 15 hours of ride along time with the Cherokee Police Department (Contact CPD to schedule ride along hours) Applicant must be graduating High School in Spring of 2020. The recipient must complete 1 semester of college while maintaining a 2.5 GPA and must major in Criminal Justice or Police Science.
April 1, 2022-Cherokee State Bank-There are a number of scholarships available through various trust programs at Cherokee State Bank. Applicants must be Cherokee county residents. The following link can be used to view the various scholarships and apply for what a student might be eligible.
April 1. 2022-Professional Educators of Iowa Scholarship- These scholarships are created to establish an ongoing network of educational opportunities for Iowans.
April 1, 2022-Cherokee Regional Medical Center Kenneth Hobson Memorial Scholarship- Applicant must be a resident of the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Service Area. A high school senior in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Entering a human health care occupation that involves “hands on” healthcare. ACT Score of 20 or above. Preference given to applicants with a relationship to hospital staff or a hospital volunteer of a minimum of one year prior to the application. Completed applications, including transcripts and recommendations must be submitted by April 1st.
April 1, 2022-Cherokee Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship-Applicant must be a resident of the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Service Area, Applicant must be a high school senior in good standing. Use of the scholarship is limited to studies relating to a human health professional career. The need for financial assistance is a consideration of the committee.
Completed applications, including attachments and recommendations must be submitted by April 1st.
April 1, 2022-Cherokee Regional Medical Center John M. Comstock Scholarship-Applicant must be a resident of the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Service Area. A high school senior in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Entering a human health care occupation. ACT Score of 22 or above.The need for financial assistance as well as overall high school performance including extra-curricular activities will be considered by the committee. Completed applications, including transcripts and recommendations must be submitted by April 1st.

April 1, 2022-Alta Kiwanis and Aurelia Kiwanis Scholarship-Applicant must be a student of Alta-Aurelia High School. Applicant must be planning to enroll in a post-secondary institution. Scholarship award will be based partially on financial need. Scholarship will be based also on the student's potential success in college.
April 1, 2022-Alta Kiwanis and Aurelia Kiwanis Vocational Scholarship-Applicant must be a student of Alta-Aurelia High School. Applicant must be planning to enroll in a post-secondary institution and majoring in Ag Technology, Construction Trades(HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, and Electricians), Wind Turbine Technology, Nursing, Welding, Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance. Applicant must demonstrate perseverance in overcoming adversity. Applicant must be involved in community service activities.
April 1, 2020-Cherokee Chamber of Commerce 2020 Agricultural Scholarship-Applicant must plan to work toward a degree in the agriculture field. Applicant must be a graduating senior who resides in Cherokee county.
April 1, 2022-Ann Griffel Scholarship-Applicants must be Iowa high school senior girls who have a passion for golf and intend to further their education at an Iowa instituation of higer learning, whether a college, university, or trade school.
April 1, 2022-Herman Sani Scholarship-Any graduating high school senior and resident of the State of Iowa with experience or background in golf is eligible to apply.
April 1, 2022-Northwest Iowa League of Cities Regional Scholarship-Applicant must be a high school senior and reside in a community that is a member of the Northwest Iowa League of Cities. Student must have intent to enroll in a post secondary program that may result in employment by city government, and must have acceptance and enrollment in a post secondary institution.
April 1, 2020-Sigma Chapter Scholarship-Delta Kappa Gamma Society International-Candidates must be pursuing the field of education in college.
April 2, 2022-The Alta Chapter GB P.E.O. Scholarship-Female students in the upper 50% of the class may apply. Students must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution. The scholarship amount is $400.
April 4, 2022-Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship-Awarded to one male and one female Iowan who are outstanding athletes involved with the Iowa Games. Citizenship, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, perseverance, and sportsmanship are a few of the values this award is based on. Applicants must be a junior or senior in the 2021-2022 school year.
April 5, 2022-Northwest Iowa Law Enforcement Scholarship -Students graduating in 2022 from Buena Vista, Pocahontas, and Sac counties who plan on entering the law enforcement field.
April 11, 2022-Cherokee County Pork Producers-Applicant must reside in Cherokee county and be enrolled in a college/university at full time status, paying full time tuition. Applicants be pursuing a major or field of study that will benefit agriculture or ag business.
April 15, 202-Carroll C. Mongan Trust Scholarships and Loans-Students must be a resident of Cherokee county for at least 10 years. The student must be a member of the graduating senior class.
April 15, 2022-United Bank of Iowa Scholarship-Applicant must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2 or 4 year college, university, or vocational/technical school. The preference field of study would be business, finance, accounting, agricultural, or related field. The scholarship will be based on the student's involvement in school and community activities and must have at least a 2.5 overall high school GPA. Preference would be the applicant or the applicant's parents are a customer of United Bank of Iowa. United Bank of Iowa employee's children are not eligible for the scholarship.
April 24, 2020-North Star Community Credit Union Scholarship-Students must be graduating seniors, planning a post high school education. Students must be from Cherokee or Ida County, any of their adjoining counties, or Osceola County, classified as a senior with a projected graduation date of 2020. Applicants must have an account established in their own name and be a "member in good standing" at the credit union.
April 30, 2020-Cherokee County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship-Applicant must be a senior pursuing an agricultural related field in a post secondary edeucation program. The senior student must also have a background in the area of raising and working with cattle.
April 29, 2022-Ag Coop Safety Directors of Iowa Scholarship in Memory of Mark Hambleton -Applicants must be a high school senior attending a college or university in the fall of 2022 and pursuing a major in an agriculture or safety related field.
May 1, 2022-Gene Dumkrieger Memorial Scholarship-Applicant must be from the Aurelia School District. Recipient must enroll in a four year college or university. Recipient must enroll within four months of graduation from high school. Recipient must be enrolled in one of the following fields of study:
Nursing, Conservation, Art, and Teaching.
May 1, 2022-Mary and Larry Fellows Memorial Scholarship-Student must be an Alta resident and a senior at Alta-Aurelia High School. Applicant must be accepted in a post-secondary 2-year technical, vocational, or training school program(community college). Student must have a 2.5 g.p.a. Applicant must be interested and motivated toward personal growth and demonstrate a concern and involvement in their community, church, or employment.
May 1, 2022-Tim Radke Memorial Scholarship-Applicant must be attending an institution of higher learning and major in an agriculture related field.
May 1, 2021-Cherokee Unit of the Iowa Retired School Personnel Association: Lynn Rhoads $500 Memorial Scholarship -Applicant must be a resident of Cherokee County. Applicant must have at least a C average g.p.a.
May 1, 2019-Iowa Association of Building Officials Scholarship-Applicant must be an Iowa resident with an Iowa high school dipoma and be able to write a one page essay about your goals relating to building inspection or construction-related professions.
May 1, 2022-Nuvera/R.T. Rodenberg Memorial Scholarship-This scholarship honors Richard T. Rodenberg, a former Board Member and Chairman of the Board of Nu-Telecom. A member of the 2022 graduating class of Alta-Aurelia. Students must have at least a 2.0 G.P.A., attend a post secondary institution, and be involved in extra-curricular activities for at least one year.
May 1, 2022-Sue and Myron Radke Endowment Scholarship-Sue and Myron Radke are both retired teachers from the Aurelia Community School. Sue was an elementary teacher for many years and Myron was a social studies teacher and long-time football coach. As former educators they have established a scholarship in their name. The scholarship is a one-time payment of $1000.00 to a senior in the Alta-Aurelia school who plans to attend an institution of higher learning to pursue a career in either education or in the medical field. The scholarship will be given based on the following qualities: Leadership, Future Promise, and Citizenship. The selection of the scholarship recipient is made by a committee established by the donors.
May 1, 2022-William H. & Edith M. Guest Educational Trust Scholarships Application Form-Under the Trust Instrument, preference must be given to students living in the Cherokee area attending a 2 year trade or vocational program.
May 1, 2021-North Central Line Service Scholarship in Memory of Kyle Suter-Applicants for this scholarship must be graduating seniors of Alta-Aurelia High School with the goal of attending a post secondary program majoring in powerline with the intent of becoming a lineman.
May 1, 2022-Cherokee State Bank Educational Loans-There are various loans available through trust programs at Cherokee State Bank. Applicants must be Cherokee County residents. Use the following link to assess for which you might be eligible.
June 1, 2021-Karon Brown Award-The recipient of this award is recognized for excellence in the classroom, in athletics, and must plan on a future in a sports-related field: athletic administration, coaching, sports management, athletic training, event operations, marketing, media relations, or sports journalism. Her profile should reflect loyalty, perserverance, character, and passion for continuing a career serving female athletes. Applicant must be female, have a 3.0 cumulative high school GAP, minimum 25 ACT score, have participated in at least one IGHSAU-sanctioned sport in high school, must be a graduating high school senior.
June 18, 2022-Iowa PGA Section Charlie Burkhart Scholarship Application-Any graduating senior who is a resident within the boundaries of the Iowa PGA Section and the State of Iowa is eligible to apply. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, then on their academic ability and financial need.
July 29, 2022-Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts Scholarship-Open to all Iowa high school students in good standing at an accredited high school and with grade point averages of 3.0 or greater who are studying drama and have acted in official school productions for 2021 and/or 2022.

This Scholarship is for students planning to pursue higher education in any of the nursing professions, including but not limited to: LPN, RN, BSN, Masters in Nursing, DNP and Nursing Practitioner. Nursing students for any specialty area are eligible, including but not limited to: acute care, adult, family, geriatric, neonatal, pediatric, psychiatric, women's health, nursing informatics or nursing administrators. The deadlines are Jan. 31, Apr. 30, July 31, and Oct. 31-recurring annually. Four scholarships are awarded per year.
This scholarship is for students planning to pursue post-secondary education in any of the beauty and wellness professions, including but not limited to: salon and spa management, makeup artistry, and several others. Beauty and wellness students for any specialty area are eligible if they are pursuing the training to become a licensed professional. The deadlines are Jan. 31, Apr. 30, Jul. 31 and Oct. 31-recurring annually. Four scholarships are awarded per year.
